Two Chechen "freedom fighters" so beloved by our subject John Le Carre blow up the 2013 Boston Marathon.
Chechen terrorists always get a favorable treatment in his novels (they make appearance in at least two of those), so will Le Carre write a novel about these two?
However, in this one case, the two brothers might actually have had a pretty good reason for what they did, come to think of it, still unjustifiable of course.
It has been suggested that the Brothers Tsarnaev, the two Boston bombers (if the FBI is to be believed), might have been driven by their desire to avenge Western crimes against Islam, especially British and American crimes.
Indeed, not to justify the heinous terrorist act in Boston but to try to understand it and to put things into perspective, they might have a point.
The USA just finished killing 1,500,000 Muslims in Iraq and continues to kill Muslims in Afghanistan at rate of 20+ civilians and an unknown number of Mujaheddin combatants a day.
Britain also occupied Muslim lands and oppressed Muslims for centuries -- from the 16th century at least to the late 20th and at one time -- in-between the two world wars when the British Empire was at its strongest -- seriously considered invading, capturing and occupying all holy sights of Islam and taxing Muslim pilgrims.
Needless to say the Brits killed plenty of Muslims too, especially in their many massacres and wars in India, in their three failed campaigns in Afghanistan, and in their genocidal campaigns in North Africa.
The death toll inflicted by the British on the followers of Islam in their day is probably even higher than what the USA is doing today, and that's saying.
